POTENTIALITY to HYDROGEN is the measurement of the equilibrium of acid and base in the body. A higher pH reading in a fluid indicates that the fluid is more alkaline and oxygen-laden. A lower pH reading indicates the fluid is more acidic or deprived of oxygen. The pH range is from 0 to 14, with 7.0 being neutral. Readings above 7.0 indicate alkalinity, readings below 7.0 are considered acidic. Humans are born with body fluids in a slightly alkaline state or high pH.
